Do I have anxiety?
Do you experience racing thoughts? Play out worst case scenarios in your mind? Do you have trouble controlling your constant worry? Or maybe you even have chest pains or rapid breathing?
If these symptoms, and others, may be interfering with parts of your life or relationships. Let us help you take control of your thoughts and restore peace to your mind and body. In addition to learning to manage and decrease anxiety, we can also help you get to the root of your worry and stress and move toward lasting change.
Do I need a counselor for my anxiety?
If you are suffering from some of the symptoms above, and/or find yourself with excessive worry more days than not, you might want to seek therapy for your anxiety. In addition, if these struggles are causing trouble for you in your relationships, at work, or in your home life, now would be a good time to get help. If you are experiencing panic attacks associated with your worry and anxiety, now is a good time to seek counseling. You don’t have to suffer, and you certainly do not have to suffer alone. Sometimes, just sharing your story at the first intake appointment, can take the edge off the intensity of the anxiety.
What does anxiety counseling include?
Anxiety counseling services typically begin with you sharing your story followed by the counselor providing some education on the physiological nature of anxiety along with how to manage these symptoms. Part of this may include learning the difference between stress and anxiety and learning more in depth about what we call the “anxiety cycle.” Self-awareness, getting to know your thoughts and emotions, is a huge part of anxiety counseling. The counselor may also incorporate training on relaxation techniques like deep breathing, mindfulness, thought stopping, reframing, and other tools to aid in the management of your anxious thoughts.
After these initial few sessions, getting to the root of your stress and anxiety may be helpful. This is where the lasting change can begin to take place. Pulling a weed out by the roots helps to prevent it from returning.
There is Hope
There is hope! The encouraging thing is, counseling can help you learn how to manage and decrease your anxiety no matter where you find yourself on the spectrum. In some extreme cases, medication can be used as a supplement to therapy. The good news is, most people can learn to control their anxiety without the use of medication.
