Online Counseling
Whether it’s during a time of national crisis, or you find yourself unable to attend an in-person session, or it’s just more convenient, choosing online counseling might be the right choice for you.
What is online counseling?
Restorative Counseling Center is excited to be able to now offer online sessions for all of its current client, along with new clients intakes. Online counseling, also known as telehealth or teletherapy, can look different for different therapy practices. For Restorative Counseling Center, we use a video conferencing platform available through our Electronic Health Records system (Theranest). This platform is HIPAA compliant, confidential and allows us to connect on our computers with both video and audio. It may sound intimidating, but it’s actually quite simple for both the counselor and the client.
Benefits of Teletherapy
Despite some possible hesitations, there are many benefits to this type of counseling service. In many cases, online counseling can be just as effective as traditional in person sessions.
Benefits include:
- the prevention of illness
- a more flexible schedule
- convenience
- time saved not commuting
- a familiar setting for the client
- the decrease in fear of seeing someone you know at the office
As with any counseling relationships, the client has a right to terminate at any time if they feel they would better benefit from in person sessions.
What do I need for online counseling?
Therapy online works for a variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, stress management and more. In order to have the best telehealth experience, you will need a quality, high speed internet connection. You may log on using any electronic device with a camera feature. It is also best if clients use headphones/headset/earbuds that have a microphone (most new models include this feature). Most important is a quiet, private space away from others in order to maintain confidentiality.
